No shortages of at least rice and wheat have surfaced.

Please ignore me if my comments are tedious. I don't want to get between you and your thought processes. And, like I said, I'm ignorant re commodities trading.

I just don't understand why you think it matters that there are no shortages yet. The contract price is in anticipation of future shortages. (Which look worse right now since that cyclone hit rice-growing areas.) I wouldn't expect there to be a correlation between futures prices and current shortages or lack of same.
