The object of the hypothetical was to illustrate for you the significance of the volume axis. Now, since you're dead certain that the volume axis is "insignificant" and there is only one axis, the variety axis, then my illustrating the volume axis with a hypothetical is pointless.

I'm startled that my offering the notion of two axes could exercise someone so.

As for your other adjectives, of course a hypothetical used for illustration will be untrue and extreme. If it were true, it wouldn't illustrate anything. If it were subtle, you wouldn't get it. Oh, yeah, you didn't get it anyway.
