Depends on the car.

If you care can use "OMG" without knocking, or without having to adjust the timing or other factors to avoid knocking (the latter is much more common now), than its just as good. Its not like regular has any less power than premium.

But many performance cars are set up for premium. Almost all of them will still run on regular, but at slightly reduced power.

Ten years ago that was generally true. Newer vehicles today have a lot higher compression engines which perform better on higher octane gas. They can run OK on lower octane gas because the computer recognizes what type of gas it is using & adjusts the timing & spark. I do doubt that using higher octane gas will save you money though as you won't see enough of an increase in MPG's to make up for the price difference.

I treat my car to LOL. What's another $1.80 for a full tank of gas these days? That tank lasts me 2-4 weeks & I get a little more pep & a small MPG boost. Plus, IMO, using LOL might keep the engine running better for a longer time since many independent & Big Oil companies do not put enough cleaning agents in their regular grade gas.
