The more like yourself someone else is, the easier it is to be in agreement. Diversity presents challenges to the individual, but because of these challenges there is the opportunity for personal growth not found in more monolithic societies. By no means is diversity a guarantee for success and the long history of war proves this, but in the American experience, we have channeled our differences to build character and expand tolerance.
