In the rest of the world we counter it with economic developement and increased freedom. I dont think fanatics are in slam dunk mode. Most folks are not on their side. Its interesting that even in south asia they refer to the arabs specifically. Al queada is arab-centric and that can be a negative, no???

There was Cuban radicalism when Spain was occupying their land.
There was Chinese radicalism when the opium traders were occupying their land.
There was Native American radicalism when the europeans occupied their land.
