"But I have never understood the notion that murderous radicals will eventually become peaceful if the free world simply renounced war."

I don't care what they do, as long as they stay on their side of the world. It's YOU that predicts "Red Dawn: Islamic"!

But I have never understood the notion that murderous radicals will eventually become peaceful if the free world simply renounced war.

And I never said the free world should renounce war or that radicals (of any stripe) will ever become peaceful.

The key here is that our reaction was irrational. We attacked Iraq, not AQ. That has damaged us and helped them. They couldn't have asked for more... which is likely to increase the danger of terrorist attacks on the US.

If we had focused all our resources in a relentless, precise no holds barred immediate effort to get the AQ leadership, then we would have sent a clear message. And I think we would have been successful; remember the whole world was on our side and we could have done anything to get them short of using a nuke.

I have never advocated letting these people get away. But how does is that goal served by becoming consumed in Iraq?
