Everyone has their own selection process for the candidates they choose to vote for and as an illustration I've tried to rank my concerns regarding different factors when voting for a candidate.

1) Political Ideology (What a person expects from government)

2) Moral Center (Religious beliefs factor greatly here)

3) Life Experience (Education, Public Service, Military, Career Path, and Others)

4) Age (Experience, Health, and Mental Acuity)

5) Race (Cultural Perspective)

6) Gender (Thought Process)

This is a rough outline for myself. Some will agree and others will and do rank priorities differently, but this is America and no voter has to justify their preference or priorities to anyone.
