Well you are a real penny pincher <g> then get rid of the internet as well, right? good for another $40. Insurance? Not required as it has a thousand reasons not to pay anyway.

But saving is not viable for the petrol if people need to commute. Otherwise saving creates the problems elsewhere; if consumers really cut down in masses the affected companies will see diminished revenue cutting employees etc and the second round of savings is due.

I would have contested vacations and charity as well. But then remember they have 2 kids and it is no luxury item to take the kids someplace. Entertainment with $500 is also a ticket, but maybe it includes other items:

Actually, there are a lot more costs not included or underestimated:
Managed care for the kids
Support for the parents (statistically, about half of the parents are alive).
Taxes for the church etc...
Clothing at $150 is very little for the family. I spend that alone, and kids need more stuff as they grow.

Each of them good for several $100s again.
