Until then raw data showing that our life expectancy is less than the other industrialized countries is enough to mandate that exhaustive study. And to, at least, make those who believe the US system is on par -- even though we spend significantly more money -- to reconsider it.

I don't see the point. What would make that worth an exhaustive study? That one country has a longer or shorter life expectancy than another is good only for a moment of national pride or for answering questions on Jeopardy, seems to me.
