a humane/human way to produce biofuels could happen using jatropha. Drought and heat resistant, it could be sensibly used by planting along with existing food crops (as hedgerows, etc.), or in currently under-utilised, low biodiversity areas such as sub-Sahara Africa. Ideally it would be grown by small farmers who then marketed their crop through small producer owned fuel producing cooperatives (primarily then used by the producers and other local consumers).
