Oh. When RE drew my interest I had no clue about short sales. So, I tried to draw an analogy to then well known short sales of common stock. I concluded, RE short sales are an element of the (bursting) bubble much like in a normal stock bubble.

Alas. I was shocked to learn that a "paper" gain from a successful RE short sale is a taxable income.
