The actual statistics of prisoners in Australia are 26,000 total. 0.13% of the population. More than 1% of the US population is in prison, more than 8x as much.

Twenty of the prisoners in Australia are indigenous - compared with 2.4% of the total population. In America more than 13% of those who identify as black have lost their right to vote due to conviction for felonies.

In 1950, whites represented 65 percent of the prison population, while black prisoners represented 35 percent. Today, the opposite is true, with white prisoners composing 35 percent of those imprisoned and blacks, who are just over 13 percent of the general population, accounting for nearly 65 percent of those in prison.

A systematic bias toward imprisonment, especially for some.
