Actually it looks as if Obama's dismissal of the "tax-holiday" idea may have helped him capture the nomination. Making appeals to intellectually challenged voters does not work every time. But you are of course right about the general presumption that speaking up for higher gasoline taxes is political suicide. I say "presumption." Has anyone tried it? I thought maybe Ron Paul might have. But no: he sounds worse than anyone: ronpaul2008.com
