I'll stay with my brothers opinion of these new bad boy recruits.

Probably sounds like my son on his last Navy assignment as a DI at Great Lakes.

In the Marine Corps boot camp I experienced some 50 years ago, those bad boys learned very early to do as they were told. In those days a Drill Instructor (or 2) would not hesitate to slam a punk around. We also had what was known then as a "blanket party". This was other guys in our platoon that would, in the middle of the night, surprise a constant trouble maker with a hastily thrown blanket over the guys head followed immediately by a couple dozen guys beating hell out of him before he knew what happened. He got the word that the rest of us weren't going to tolerate him getting all of us extra hardships. I would imagine some version of that still exists out there.
