"Technically it's no different than a placard with a message on it.....it clearly demonstrates one's national pride, but like prayer many people feel they have too do in front of a group..." It what? The flag or the pledge? The flag is a symbol the pledge is something you do, or don't do as a declaration of support for what our nation stands for.

"There are thousands even millions of flags from different nations flown around this country by people telling us of their ethnic pride. I have a neighbor who paid hundreds of dollars to have a large flag pole erected in front of his house on which he displays the US and Irish flags.....Ireland's on the bottom. At schools around here there are hallways lined with foreign flags. Usually a foreign exchange student makes the request to have one added to honor their homeland but anyone can request to have one added. No one has ever objected. =========== The Mexican flag being waved in PE class is a different issue. It is a statement being made in the midst of and in disruption of an activity course of study, learning, and development. Students enter the gymnasium in PE uniforms and other articles including school books are kept out except when called for. A disruption that the teacher felt put his students at risk of harm, and which you defend. The Adopt-a-highway sign is a normal apropriate and acceptable venue for display. The activity is one of community service and benefit to this country. It has the potential to make people entering this country illegally, uncomfortable. So you attack it. Your logic is tainted with political corruption, as usual.
