I probably mistrust government far more than most people here, but not trusting someone or something doesn't mean you assume they are always wrong.

what is often over looked is the importance of the cpi on the budget......higher cpi means high adjustments of benefits and wages.

there is therefore a certain economic incentive for the gov to understate.

add in the psycological factor of building higher inflation expectations by officially recognizing higher inflation and you have a classic case for asking "cui bono"?
