<<Environmentalists say extracting a barrel of crude from oil sands results in five times the amount of greenhouse gas emissions than extracting conventional crude – a figure some energy companies dispute>>

Is this true? Do they know how to measure greenhouse gas emissions?

They know how to calculate the emissions of carbon dioxide. The amount of greenhouse gas, which is mostly water vapor, is a function of the computer models.
