all out in the open, honest elections,

That is EXACTLY where I have a problem. There are 50 different selection processes and not all of them are elections. Maybe its just because my state is so screwed up. We have a caucus and select selectors who select selectors who select the people who chose a candidate. Iowa is the same thing. I don't know how many other states are this screwed up but I suspect there are a lot of them are. There is PLENTY of room within this mess for party leaders to exert influence.

This idea that Republicans have an open honest election to select a candidate is a myth.
