THE WRITER IS THE ENGINEER OF THE HUMAN SOUL - Joseph Stalin

Webster,

You are an engineer in the sense Stalin intended, and thus deserving of a reply.

<<<Should Obama be elected ..., you should not feel humiliated to be an American while you shine somebody else's shoes.....You can hold your head up proudly, punch the clock proudly, and pay your taxes proudly too. But don't give up hope.....We will still have the CIA and the FBI - they will not let you down. But (if).. all hope is lost, there's always Paraguay.... Habla espanol?>>>

But how does one reply to a consciously zany and silly post that contains an un-stated menace?

Answer: Silliness deserves silly.

Query to all Innocents on this Board: Does the Constitution protect your life, liberties and property? Answer: Yes, it's supposed to. But what if- as occurs in most parts of the world - there is a constitution...but there aren't any constitutionalists?

Your post very much reminded me of the style of Joseph v. Jugashvilli, AKA Stalin.

It's not commonly remembered but Stalin was truly a talented poet and wordsmith. In 1894, he graduated first in his class at the Georgian Orthodox Seminary in Gori.

As Kruschev recalls it, he had a habit of speaking to his associates in an oblique and overtly friendly fashion that frightened the living daylights out of those so addressed.

I've collected a few of my favorites:

EDUCATION IS A WEAPON WHOSE EFFECTS DEPEND ON WHO HOLDS IT IN HIS HANDS AND AT WHOM IT IS AIMED.

GRATITUDE IS A SICKNESS SUFFERED BY DOGS.

IT IS ENOUGH THAT THE PEOPLE KNOW THERE WAS AN ELECTION. THE PEOPLE WHO CAST THE VOTES DECIDE NOTHING. THE PEOPLE WHO COUNT THE VOTES DECIDE EVERYTHING.

IF THE OPPOSITION DISARMS, WELL AND GOOD. IF IT REFUSES TO DISARM, WE SHALL DISARM IT OURSELVES.

IDEAS ARE FAR MORE POWERFUL THAN GUNS. WE DON'T ALLOW OUR ENEMIES TO HAVE GUNS, WHY SHOULD WE ALLOW THEM TO HAVE IDEAS?

ONE DEATH IS A TRAGEDY; A MILLION IS A STATISTIC.

EVERYONE IMPOSES HIS OWN SYSTEM AS FAR AS HIS ARMY CAN REACH.

Has our society become so obsessed with "the" election that neither side feels that it can afford to lose?

Answer: No, but then Rome wasn't made in a day. The breakup of a society begins when opponents don't believe the other side is playing by the previously agreed rules. (I am thinking "Acorn.")

Extracurricular: Read Hugh Thomas' masterful "The Spanish Civil War."

P.S. Si. Hablo un poco.
