The closest analogy to the current American system would be the corrupt British system prior to the reforms of the mid-1800's. Keep in mind, that this was exactly the kind of corruption that incited the (first) American revolution.

Various British monarchs <literally> lost their heads when they had gone too far. Not to mention the Bourbons in France. And, of course, many European leaders were shot (it's, oh, so lower-class) during the twentieth century.

Might I suggest that you erect a tastefully done Guillotine in Lafayette Park to remind your overlords who they work for?
