It's simple, don't make any food jokes, I also think they're totally unacceptable. I still remember how "You should never burn food" was an important rule in my childhood, and then they started doing exactly that.

However - much hunger is not about lack or shortages of food in the society. During the big hunger in Ireland, they were a net exporter of food... if they had closed the ports, forcibly stopping exports, they would probably had food enough to make it affordable. When you think of all the political trouble this has cost, it makes much more sense when food producing countries are putting limits on exports.
