Reagan and Nixon both negotiated with our enemies. So did JFK, FDR, Truman and many others. If you don't talk to our enemies you're asleep at the wheel as a president. You have no choice but to go to war and fail to understand your enemies. The problem with Bush-Cheney is that they WANT war. More and more of it because it helps make them money and helps them politically (at least has in the past but no longer). The tragedy of the Vietnam War was that it was all based on a huge misunderstanding. Watch the film FOG OF WAR and Robert McNamara will explain it for you. Basically, every single person killed in Vietnam died for a huge mistake and error. They were never any threat to our national security. And we beat ourselves, like in Iraq, by imagining a false reality and politicizing the war, while making the most corrupt thieves in the region our partners.
