Dealing with politicians is like reading a book.

If you are reading a novel and are willing to accept the fact that it's fiction, you suspend disbelief and evaluate the story
on its internal merits.

If you're reading non-fiction, then you must apply some objective criteria to determine its merit and shouldn't be required to suspend disbelief as though you were reading a fairy tale.

Unfortunately, guys like Brooks treat Obama like a fairy tale.
In fact, not only do they suspend any modicum of journalistic cynicism, they actually elaborate on the fiction.
