Upscale Swedish author Stig Dagerman (was married to Hollywood actress Anita Björk) was sent on a reportage trip through burned out Germany in 1947. Besides making notices of the moon crater like views from the train he commented "concentration camps bah, only guys who couldn't keep their moths shut up went there".
Trust me, he wasn't a GOP type person.
