Your analogy about the Star Spangled banner doesn't really sway me, either. We'll just have to disagree.

You might ask yourself, though, why a person in her position would even quantify her pride in her country in that way...
The sentiment itself tells the listener much about Ms. Obama and that's the part that interests me.

What if Michelle said that she was not really proud of her husband until he decided to run for President?

Ten bucks says that Obama would not regard that as a compliment.
