>>Not when they're responding to charisma and slick rhetoric. They're responding with their emotions. Obama doesn't have anything else to offer. He's a state legislator.

When I signed on to Bush back in 2000, I evaluated all the candidates and read books by Bush and McCain. I made my choice on the basis of my intellect, not slogans and feel good rallies.<<

That's a completely unfounded, and illogical, self-referential argument, in case you weren't aware of it. Seems to be based on emotion, to me.

By the way, have you read Obama's books? Or do you only read books by conservatives?

PS: Wait. George W. Bush wrote a book?

I made my choice on the basis of my intellect, not slogans and feel good rallies.

You made your choice because he resonated with you. He fit into your world view. He felt right. He reinforced your values, notions, attitudes, biases. Since he was like you, you judge him to be one sharp cookie. Yeah, there's a bit of intellect in that process. Somewhere. Mostly rationalization of your resonance.

Now, if you were eager for change, if your value system put a priority on treating people with respect and finding ways to get along, if you identified with people who are sophisticated, articulate, intellectual, self-knowing and controlled, then Obama would resonate with you, reinforce your values and your ideas of how to govern, and you would judge him to be one sharp cookie.

Same process. No more or less emotional.
