While it is true that there are many obstacles, I see no signs that Bush has done anything but pay lip service to the energy problems in this country. I had high hopes when he mentioned this issue rather prominently in some of his speeches but have seen no action on it at all.

The main reason I find this extremely important is that with every barrel of oil we buy from the ME(and for that matter, from Venezuela as well), we are strengthening some of our worst enemies financially and allowing them to fund their activities against us. I think it is terrible that we are fighting in Iraq and funding the fight against us with our oil purchases. With that in mind, buying a gas guzzler could be considered unpatriotic.

There are many little things that the president could have done to get the country in the spirit of conservation without much of a fight. All he has done is talk.
