I was always think of "exercise" as putting effort INTO something while "exorcise" is getting something OUT (and similar to exhort, though the spelling differs, but also means to draw something out of someone in a way).

One could be exercised because one wasn't correctly exorcised, I suppose.

I use that all the time. Love the word. (And it's a good "deenergizing" word for "hysterical" <g>)

I picked it up from a NY lawyer with whom I carpooled when I worked at the SEC. He managed to find a use for it about every day. I was unfamiliar with that usage until then.
