Do you think Obama is aware of the Appalachian culture? I spent some time down there in the 60s. I found some bootleg tobacco fields, but no distilleries. The people would give you the shirt off their back if you got to know them. They knew the medicinal plants, and how to make a living out of nothing.

...the land, the destillers moved thier works up into remote hill spots. so hard to find.

The locals still refer to my place as Moonshine Holler.

Seems an old-timer back in the day had a still in his house, which was quite an unusual placement for one.

He was just back in the draw behind the holler, 'twixt the ridges, about a 100 yards behind where my house sits now.

You can still see evidence of the foundation.

Another old-timer, this one still alive, witched my well for me, but that's another story.
