But at any rate, progress amongst Arab countries stopped dead in its tracks. Not at all.....Europe was living in the Dark Ages while Arabs were experiencing a period of great enlightenment. Its the Ottoman Empire, led by Turks, not Arabs, who put a stranglehold on Arab progressiveness. Between the Turks, European colonism and Arab dictators, the Arab world never recovered.....until now. In Kuwait, the UAE, Bahrain, even Lebanon, we are starting to see more movement towards modernism albeit very slowly. I've raised this issue before, and it is a legitimate question: Why, after 60 short years, have the Jews turned Israel into the most vibrant, progressive, economically viable region in the land? Prior to the occupation by Israel, the land was an absolute wasteland (tejek's uninformed views notwithstanding), and frankly, there is no reason the Palestinians couldn't have done more for themselves than they have in the 60 years following. The Jews had tons of European and American money to perform its 'miracle' in the desert. That's not to say they haven't done some amazing things with hard labor but money does talk......plus the Zionists were much better educated than the Palestinians. Remember the Palistinians were mostly farmers and ranchers under the thumb of the Ottoman Empire. Only now are Palestinians starting to get educated in greater numbers. I believe the only real explanation is that they are too focused on backward, hateful, values, and have no focus on making better lives for themselves and their children. They want to punish Israel more than they want to build lives for themselves. You're projecting.
