Have you flown lately? Have you considered the 4th Amendment? Have you lost any property or do you know anyone who has lost property due to an unreasonable search and seizure in the name of security?

Have you checked the taxes on U.S. airline fares? Do you think the searching and fees have adversely affected the business of passenger air transportation?

Obviously, the system didn't consider the passenger or the citizen. Someone could have been allowed to withdraw from the line and "check" the offending item as checked baggage and then re-enter the line.

I could think for awhile and come up with a better system that sends the offending item home. Maybe have prepaid $3.00 (maybe $4 today) USPS bubble envelopes that would only go a limited distance (airport driving distance; not full Priority Mail, using a self-serve kiosk where you enter sufficient identifying information (addressee) that would print the label. It could be offered by the airlines if there were no anti-trust issues.
