Let's address your points. I have voted for both parties for president at one time or another so I am not a registered Democrat by any means. I've said many times here that I would like to have some more moderate Republicans to vote for. I expect I will have to wait a while for that to start to happen again.

I haven't seen columns from Carville, Begala, Brazile, etc. on how Obama should run his campaign this fall, probably because they are all still caught up in the last stages of the primary campaign. I would expect them to advocate what Obama is already doing, defining McCain as a third Bush term because his economic and foreign policies are so similar, according to McCain's own speeches. The topics he differs on like global warming are tangential to the voters' main concerns.

They would use Bush's unpopularity and low approval ratings to capitalize on the sentiment that is already there - they don't like Bush or what his policies have done to the country, so vote for the other guy.

Basically, "peeling" happens when you create an image in the voters' minds that the other guy is not safe, bad for you, not in tune with your values, etc. The Limbaugh article that MM posted is the laundry list of how many would like to define Obama. As I pointed out, it had nothing to do with policy differences, just a manic focus on personal stuff.

McCain's biggest personal problems will be his temper, ties to lobbyists and flipflopping on so many things on the record.
