The "half cost" issue, has hardly been ignored here. Its been discussed back and forth at length.

The other issues haven't received as much attention but again its not correct to say they where ignored.

It can reasonably be argued that Canada's system works better for those more at the margin, poorer, less careful, etc.

Whether you define that margin as 1% of the population, or 25% of the population, the point is that if you go to true single payer, then your pushing people who have better coverage (coverage not involving as long of waits as in Canada, to just bring up one point) in to poor coverage.

Since the system is supposed to be for everyone you can't just focus on the bottom 1%, 10%, 25%, even 40% if you think its that high (and if you do many would disagree).

Even in Canada the idea of single payer is breaking down, with court decisions allowing other payers.
