A judge crossed out the name in the announcement to the territorial governor and wrote in Virginia City in its place... I'd wondered about that name in your story, thanks. (A story that I do not know enough about to comment on, BTW). Are you familiar with The Gallant Pelham? You mean the young artillery captain who personally and singularly held up Burnside's approach to Fredericksburg for over an hour? Its funny how the losing side never has any heroes.
