What they really believe: Americans are just too damned rich, lazy, and overweight. The rest of the world will hate us unless we demonstrate asceticism. Of course, it seems that these guys think asceticism is right for us peons but not for the elite. Rich liberals can fly around in learjets, but by god we had better not drive our SUVs to the store. We have to be on the forefront in alternative energy research if we want to keep our standard of living. But is it not sacrificing our standard of living to live in a home that is cooled to only 76 degrees? I think it is.

Thats one of the things that did carter in and led to reagan. Remember the fireside chats with the sweater on? The ideology is one of anti-materialism which is another word for anti-capitalism in the liberals lexicon. Look, i dont mind making sacrifices as needed if they are a means to a desirable end. We should have made sacrifices for iraq for example. We certainly should conserve energy for our energy independence as well as global warming reasons. What i do mind is when liberals try to impose their ideloogy on others and make living less well an end in itself. PS the jury is out on obama. I wouldnt always assume the worth. If indeed he is a community organizer at heart, his goal was to put food in the belly and heat in the apartments. Sweaters are for the limo liberals and i hope obama is more of the former than the latter.
