I was referring to bio_tech bull's larger point that judgment on appeasement depends upon the outcome.

Do you think GWB appeased bin Laden by pulling US troops out of Saudi Arabia?

Do you think it was the right thing to do?

There is no comparable notion of empire today as there was back then (and even then, the very notion had faded to almost nothing, with Hitler's idiotic ambition being the final blow).

Not really the final blow. The area behind the iron curtain could have legitimately been considered part of a Soviet Empire. Still your right that even then the notion was in decline
