There was a wonderful character named Mrs. Malaprop who constantly misused words. It's from a French phrase mal à propos, which means not appropriate.

Speaking of TV last night, I'm sorry I missed the hillbilly show. I had gotten off the computer to watch the Spurs game and didn't see the reference until this morning. And it's not on their schedule again any time soon.
