The Islamic Golden Age was the period following the early conquests of the advanced societies of Byzantium, Persia, India. These cultures achievements continued for awhile under Islam.

The Muslims also transmitted things from one part of the world to another - arabic numerals which we use for example - they actually began in India and are called Arabic because the Muslims transmitted them to the west.

Still within the "Islamic Golden Age" they were pretty backward by modern standards as was everyone else at the time.

Their civilization was far superior to anything that existed at the time.
