Z already told you. There simply are not enough resources to raise the rest of the world to our standard of living. Heck, there probably isn't enough to raise China and India to that level, and they are on the fast track.

So, because the rest of the world can't be raised to our standard of living, we should cut ours? Is that what he's saying?

Just because some people somewhere else can't drive SUVs, we shouldn't drive ours if we want to purchase fuel for it? We should eat less because people are starving in other countries? We should limit our cooling to 78 degrees because other countries can't have air conditioning?

This is a stupid argument and is carrying to an extreme the notion that our country's sovereignty should be subservient to that of other countries.

I'm sorry. If they want to drive SUVs, they need to simply pay more for the oil than we do.
