Ten,
You are on right side here, not the dark side like david ray. I would talk to iran without preconditions but not without legwork in preparing such a negotiation. For instance talk of nuking anyone or wiping countries off the face of the earth would be out of bounds.

PS please note today that the lebanon mess seems settled, iraqi troops sans US troops took sadr city without incident and syria is negotiating a peace treaty with Israel, mediated by Turkey. Could it just be possible that bush policy might have been successful and that iran may possibly be offering us an olive branch here? Otherwise, it's one hell of a coincidink, dont you think???? And perhaps even carter overtures to Assad might have had something to do with this too??

So what if you want to talk to Iran without any pre-conditions? I would support that.

Absolutely not. No president would EVER do this. The adverse consequences are ENORMOUS.

Even Obama won't do it if he is elected. As a naive, inexperienced candidate he can say it. But no president of the United States would EVER consider it.

It's not beyond Bush to give a wink and a nod, but the reaction from Obama and the media is still out of proportion, IMO.

Well the "appeaser" label has some pretty ugly historical connotations, so it's difficult to let it stand. I don't think Obama can afford to just let things go for a few days like Kerry did. Hell Kerry obviously couldn't afford it either.
