Popes Paul & Benedict have condemned liberation theology. Paul born in Poland and Benedict born in Nazi Germany knew first hand the evil effects of totalitarian states.

The history of the Jesuit order over thousands of yrs is fascinating. Through the ages there have often been a few Jesuits who evolved into maverick priests. Those Jesuit priests espousing liberation theology in South America were reprimanded by the Pope. If they continued the teachings once their boss(the pope) ordered them to cease & desist, they can no longer be considered representatives of the traditional Jesuit order. They're mavericks in the worst sense of the word, promoting their own dogma in direct opposition to official church teachings:
