Did you notice that today israel and syria are talking, mediated by turkey;

They have been talking for months; the only thing new is the public statement. The public statement happened why? Because Assad was willing to go public with a MAJOR CONCESSION (that is, Syria's decision to break from Iran).

Hell, the US is trying to help Israel and the Palestinians cut a deal for peace, at it has tried to to for years. I believe Bush specifically referred to such negotiations in a positive light in the same speech he criticized appeasement in.

These things are a matter of context, and Israel has, in this case, handled it correctly -- they get a concession, they make a concession. What a president CANNOT do is to sit down with the leader of a terrorist nation (which Olmert didn't do) without preconditions (which Obama has said he WOULD do).

lebanon issue settled for now

And the consensus is the terrorist came out stronger in the process.

So just how long do you think the Lebanese are going to view this as a "win"?

iraqi troops without americans took sadr city in bagdad.

After Maliki essentially told Sadr, "You either cool it or we'll destroy you", and were backed up by the American military in the process. This was NOT Maliki "sitting down" with Sadr; this was his making a hard-line threat and sticking to it. Even though the media has tried its damnedest to paint it differently.
