DJ Venezuela's Chavez: US, Not OPEC, To Blame For High Oil Prices

CARACAS (AP)--Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said the U.S. is responsible for record-high oil prices, not the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries.

Chavez said U.S. officials want to pin the blame for high prices on OPEC, but the true culprit is the U.S.'s seemingly insatiable thirst for fuel.

Chavez said in a speech Wednesday that the U.S. government "wants to turn the world against OPEC."

Nymex July crude settled up $4.19 at a record $133.17 a barrel Wednesday as supply concerns mounted and the U.S. dollar weakened.
