A guy on tv drove from chicago to NYC on one tank of gas in a prius. He got extra mileage by using cruise control, driving at 55, rolling to stops when possible rather than abrubt breaking and puttng the car in neutral when going downhill (i think). I am making a personal effort to conserve. I dont need the money but others need the gas for their survival and i want prices lower for them so i will do my part. We fight wars without sacrifice and have been a wasteful society as a whole. I am going to try a little harder to do the right thing. I believe in free markets and i know that if you reduce demand prices fall. What we need in the US is a CARTEL of drivers to get prices down. What our govt needs to do is not go begging to saudi but demanding that developing countries stop subsidizing fuel products for their people. Just like with cell phones they have a chance to be at the forfront of conversation. Copying us here wont work.

No worries.......Dave has figured out the problem. The Saudis aren't pumping enough........we need to slip them a 'fin' in order to get production back up.

Dave an the Neos think we can ANWAR ourselves out of this shit. Conservation and efficiency be damned. They want to burn the maximum oil per mile... after all, this is AMERICA!!!!!!

I think the discussion on fish pretty much says it all. He sees the earth's resources as nearly infinite and any suggestions to the contrary are all part of a liberal conspiracy. I wonder how many of them there are still in the country. Certainly, he's not a small minority.

Nonsense. My car gets 24 on the highway, and the vehicle I drive this time of year gets 45 or 50. More importantly, most weeks I don't even have to leave my home to work unless I choose to.

Maybe that's why I don't worry about it. I've arranged my affairs such that I'm relatively unaffected by gas prices.

JF, > They want to burn the maximum oil per mile...after all, this is AMERICA!!!!!!

And there's no better way to burn the "maximum oil per mile" than to find yourself stuck in traffic.

Here in Southern California, there's this new toll road that is being opposed by the environmentalists because among other things, it might affect the endangered California pocket mouse:

I love showing that picture to my wife. ;-)
