You make some very good points. One thing I would add is that Apple for many years was very anti-Intel. This had to be a very bitter pill for them to swallow. They must have seen Intel's product line, roadmap and ability to deliver as far more compelling that AMD's or they would have chosen AMD in a heartbeat. AMD was tied to IBM's process roadmap and Apple wasn't able to get either the performance or the power savings they needed from that. As it unfolds we see why Apple made the choice they did.

re: 486 subpeonas. What are the conditions under which a subpoenee (groan) can just refuse to testify? I'm sure it's different for a murder investigation than an anti-trust suit, but would AMD have to get court approval to force someone to testify? Any penalties for not?
