Eisenhower campaigned in Montana. Biggest traffic jam in history.

I think both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton campaigned in Montana. Not sure about McCain.

If the President were selected by popular vote, the cities would get what they want, and the rural areas wouldn't.

I think the Electoral College has benefits beyond the campaign.

But I have to ask. How often during a general campaign do you see the candidates in Montana or Wyoming? How about North Dakota?

Not often. The candidates concentrate their efforts on the big electoral prizes. That's where the votes are.

Allen, the candidates spend most of their time in the swing states. Whether its a large or a small one. They have to have an electoral strategy, decide what their map to 270 is, and go to the states that will get them there.

Here is a nice interactive site (cite, sight, lol) to play with an electoral map:
www.270towin.com
Has a lot of historical and state specific data as well.
