But the entire point of the war, from the outset, was to create an Iraq that could positively influence its neighbors.

If so then Bush/Cheney/Powell lied about the reasons. Remember WMDs?

Do you really think that after we eventually withdraw we will have even a slight influence on the government of Iraq? Because I will promise that Iran will have 100X the influence the US will have.

Certainly, Iran will influence Iraq in some ways. As will the US.

But the entire point of the war, from the outset, was to create an Iraq that could positively influence its neighbors. I believe it will if we are successful -- although it may take some more time before this comes to fruition.

There is scant evidence that Iraq will ever become what you desire. And I am not willing to waste more billions hoping it will happen.
