Popular Mechanics has an article about 300 mph trains.

I sort of wish we had a rail system for travelers that really worked. I'm facing a situation where I would like to travel 350 miles in a couple of weeks. The only train going where I want to go leaves at 2:30 am, and there's no parking at all near the station. A taxi ride from home to the station cost me $45 several years ago, and with the cost of gas it'll be much more now.

I think I'll drive a second vehicle to my daughter's wedding. My wife took the car yesterday. Cost will be comparable to flying or train. I have a dog too.
