This goes off another tangent where I ask if one administration barely elected by a majority makes a national commitment that starts to look open-ended, don't subsequent administrations have a right and even a duty to change that if the majority of the country thinks it's wrong.

Nationbuilding is tough under the best of circumstances. Demanding it be done with minority support ranges from the foolhardy to the impossible.

In that context I'm not so sure we have to fall on our swords in abject guilt and shame when we say five years was a fair effort, now life moves on.

But each of our positions is subjective in the end.
