Yes, the global demand for diesel is already very high. So it doesn't seem practical to switch more cars over to diesel.

The new Chevy Volt electric car will have a battery with a range of forty miles or so, and an onboard liquid-fuel generator to recharge the battery on long trips. If that approach is widely adopted, the refineries will optimize product for those generators.
